Disability disclosure requirements

As part of our mission to expand employment opportunities, Melwood Enterprises employs individuals with disabilities through the AbilityOne and MD Works Programs. As a proud authorized provider under these programs, Melwood Enterprises is required to ensure most of the work on our contracts is performed by employees with significant disabilities.

Ensuring compliance may require job candidates with disabilities to disclose their disability status and provide one or more relevant forms of documentation. We comply with ADA privacy requirements and utilize industry-standard data protection measures to ensure your personal information is kept confidential and protected.

What is the AbilityOne Program?

The AbilityOne Program enables the federal government to buy products and services from non-profit agencies dedicated to employing individuals who are blind or have significant disabilities. AbilityOne job opportunities, including many of those found at Melwood, are found at more than 1,000 sites across the country.

Are all of your jobs on AbilityOne contracts?

While many Melwood Enterprises jobs are through AbilityOne, we offer employment opportunities in the state and private sectors as well. Melwood Inc. and Melwood Community Services also offer positions outside of the AbilityOne program.

Can I apply to Melwood Enterprises if I do not have a disability or I don’t wish to disclose my disability?

Yes. While a large portion of our jobs are prioritized for Americans with disabilities, individuals without disabilities are valued members of our team and are also encouraged to apply. Open positions prioritized for people with disabilities are noted in the job description.

How do I show proof of disability?

Proof of disability may include statements, records, or letters from a federal or state government agency documenting a disability, Vocational Rehabilitation or other Counselor that issues or provides disability benefits. Melwood also provides a proof of disability form that can be filled out by a licensed medical provider where other documentation is not available.
