Upon completion of his union apprenticeship, Marc will be Melwood’s first stationary engineer with a disability. Marc and his team at the USDA’s Carver Center are responsible for the care and maintenance of a massive federal property that spans four buildings and dozens of acres of ground. With his dedication to his work and the facility, Marc and his team ensure the building and grounds are clean, comfortable, safe, and well maintained so the USDA can focus on serving the needs of the American people.

Upon completion of a union apprenticeship program, Marc is on track to become the first stationary engineer with a disability employed by Melwood Enterprises. As a stationary engineer apprentice at the USDA’s Carver Center, Marc and his team are responsible for the care and maintenance of a massive federal property through Melwood Enterprises’ total facility management program.

“You feel satisfied that you’re providing a service that helps people get through their day,” he said.

Marc also said he feels good knowing he’s learning a skill that will allow him to create a bright future for himself and his family. He sees a bright future for himself—one that even involves taking over for his boss when he retires, or maybe leading a team at one of Melwood Enterprises’ other contracts where total facility management is performed.

“If it was not for Melwood, I would not be here. There was nobody else willing to help out in my career, my path,” Marc said. “They gave me a second opportunity to make something of myself.”
